GENEVA, Ohio – In the last regular season meet of the indoor season for the Maryland track and field teams, seven Terps finished inside the top-10 of their events Friday evening on day one of the Spire Invitational.The event serves as a precursor to the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships, which are also hosted at the Spire Institute.
Four Terps also set new personal bests and two school records during the first day of competition at the event.
Senior Lisa Meneau finished second in the 300 meter race, besting her previous program record with a 37.89. Junior Chandler Baxter finished 11th in the same event with another personal best (40.33).
Freshman Kameron Jones and sophomore TJ Bleichner finished fifth and sixth, respectively in the men's 600 meter run. Jones set a new school record with a 1:19.46. Bleichner posted a mark of 1:19.71, securing second on Maryland's all-time list.
In the women's 1000 meter race, junior Alexandra Lucki and senior Alexa Squirini set personal bests. Lucki finished with a 2:46.49, good for fourth in the event. Squirini finished not far behind her with an 11th place 2:53.49.
Senior Micha Powell finished eighth in the women's 200 meter with a 24.54. Junior Peyton Wade finished 30th with in 25.62 while junior Adrienne Minor finished 44th (27.33).
Catherine Voelpel came in sixth with a 1:31.33 in the women's 600 meter race. Freshman Dallyssa Huggins finished 11th (1:33.49).
In the women's weight throw, junior Claudia Ababio came in ninth, throwing for 18.29 meters. Freshman Emma O'Hara threw a 16.67, good for 17th in the event.
Senior Karah O'Halloran finished the women's 5k with a 35th place 18:51.52.
The Terps return to action Saturday to wrap up the Spire Invitational.
