Day One Recap
GENEVA, Ohio – Senior Lisa Meneau headlined the day for Maryland track and field on day two the Spire Invitational, setting her second school record of the weekend. She won the 60 meter hurdles, topping the field with a time of 8.36. The time was two hundredths of a second faster than the previous school record set by 2016 Olympian and 2015 Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year Thea LaFond.
Junior Alexandra Lucki also had a strong day on the track for the Terps, finishing second among over 50 competitors in the mile with a time of 4:47.62. She was also Maryland's top finisher in the 800, taking 21st with a time of 2:12.14.
Maryland was represented well in the women's mile, with Alexa Squirini (5:00.68), Gaby Go (5:14.65) Charde' Barnes (5:22.43) and Paige Novak (5:23.25) all running for the Terps.
Senior Micha Powell took third in a deep field of the women's 400 meter dash, running a season-best 53.71. Thaila Cooper was 26th in 57.51 while Rachelle Alexander 30th in 58.18.
Maryland's 4x400 relay 'A' squad of Meneau, Voelpel, Cooper and Powell won the event with a time of 3:39.52 to beat second place Michigan. The 'B' relay also had a solid showing, as Baxter, Alexander, Wade and Huggins finished 10th.
Kathryn Gearhart ran a personal-best 9:58.62 in the 3000, to take 20th. Senior Sydney Almeida was also a top-25 finisher with a PR 10:01.16.
Peyton Wade was second in the high jump, clearing 1.73 meters. Freshman teammate Dallyssa Huggins was 10th in the field with a jump of 1.63 meters. Claudia Ababio threw 13.26 meters in the shot put to finish 15th in the field.
Breanna Coleman was the top Terp in the triple jump with a leap of 11.11 meters while Tamir Jacobs cleared 11.05m.
On the men's side, Kameron Jones posted a mark of 48.59 in the men's 400, taking 16th in the field. Aaron Barlev went 8:34.79 in the men's 3000 to take 22nd. Josh Landsman represented Maryland in the high jump, clearing 1.91 meters.
Maryland will now turn its attention to the Big Ten Indoor Championships Feb. 24-26, held back at the Spire Institute.
