Maryland Hosts Special Olympics Athletes

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The second-ranked Maryland women's basketball team hosted a clinic Friday morning for athletes with the Special Olympics of Maryland, Prince George's County.

The Terrapins welcomed athletes from local high schools and participated in basketball drills as part of the clinic.

The athletes enjoyed tours of the Terps' lounge, locker room and basketball performance center.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for citizens with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
