COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The 2nd-ranked Maryland men's lacrosse team opens its 92nd season Saturday, Feb. 11, against No. 11 Navy in Annapolis, Md. Maryland and Navy first met in 1924, and have met every season annually since 1946. The Terps are 57-33-1 all-time against the Mids, including seven consecutive wins dating back to 2010. The Maryland defense has allowed Navy to score 10+ goals just once in the last 18 meetings since 1996.
FACING OFF
1 - Maryland is set to play its first game of the season against Navy Saturday. The Terps are 87-3-1 all-time in season-openers, including 23 consecutive victories dating back to 1994.
6 - Head coach John Tillman has had immense success since taking over the program six years ago, advancing to five NCAA semifinals and four title games. The Terps also lead the nation during that time period in All-American selections (38) and Major League Lacrosse draft selections (26).
7 - The Terps had a nation's-best seven players named Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America: Isaiah Davis-Allen (1st), Tim Muller (2nd), Matt Rambo (2nd), Colin Heacock (HM), Austin Henningsen (HM), Connor Kelly (HM) and Matt Neufeldt (HM).
12 - Head coach John Tillman has deep ties with the Naval Academy, having coached there for 12 seasons as an assistant from 1996-2007. The Mids compiled a 104-63 record during his time in Annapolis, as Tillman was twice awarded National Assistant Coach of the Year.
12 - Senior Matt Rambo has totaled 12 points (8G, 4A) in three career season-openers, including a spectacular six-point collegiate debut in 2014. He also leads current Terps with seven career points against Navy (three games).
17 - Maryland had one of its most successful seasons in history in 2016, winning a program-record 17 games en route to making its third straight NCAA Final Four and second straight NCAA Finals appearance. The Terps also won a single-season program record 16 consecutive games.
45 - Maryland's senior class enters the season as one of the best in Maryland history, having reached three NCAA semifinals and two championship games. The class has totaled 45 wins in three seasons, and need just 11 wins to break the class of 2016's program record of 55 wins.
74 - The Maryland offense returns 74% of its goal scoring output from 2016, including four of its top five leading goal scorers: Matt Rambo (43 goals), Colin Heacock (42), Connor Kelly (32), Dylan Maltz (29).
75 - Senior Matt Rambo had one of the most prolific offensive seasons in Maryland history in 2016, becoming the first player in program history to total 40 goals and 30 assists in a season. His 75 points (43G, 32A) were the third-most in program single-season history. He also set a program-record with 23 points in the NCAA Tournament.
151 - Faceoff specialist Austin Henningsen burst onto the scene in 2016, winning a Maryland freshman record 151 faceoffs. He ranked 14th overall nationally and second among freshmen with a .590 faceoff winning percentage.
