
Terps Poised for Matchup with UNC

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The No. 10 Maryland men's lacrosse team (4-2) hits the road to take on former ACC foe North Carolina Saturday, March 25, at 11:30 am in Chapel Hill, N.C. The game will be televised on ESPNU, with Anish Shroff and Paul Carcaterra on the call.
BY THE NUMBERS
1 - Saturday's meeting between Maryland and North Carolina marks the Terps' first trip to Chapel Hill since 2014, when the programs were ACC foes. The Terps hold a 42-25 record all-time against the Tar Heels in a series that dates back to 1964, including a 16-12 road mark.
4 - The Terrapins have had great success clearing the ball in 2017, ranking fourth nationally and first in the Big Ten with a .929 clear percentage. Maryland has had a perfect clear percentage in its last two games, and 3-of-6 in 2017. The program is 59-8 under John Tillman when it has a higher
clear percentage than its opponent.
6 - Freshman Jared Bernhardt has tallied at least one point in all six games to open his career, marking the longest streak to open a career since Matt Rambo had a point in the first seven games of 2014. Four of Bernhardt's eight goals have come by way of the EMO - a mark that ranks third in the Big Ten.
6 - Head coach John Tillman has had immense success since taking over the program in 2011, advancing to five NCAA semifinals and four title games. The Terps also lead the nation during that time period in All-America selections (38) and Major League Lacrosse draft selections (26).
7 - The Terrapins remain one of the nation's most lethal shooting teams, ranking seventh in the country with a .348 shooting percentage. All five of Maryland's leading scorere are shooting better than 31 percent in 2017.
13 - Junior Connor Kelly has made of habit of playing his best games against North Carolina, totaling 13 points on 10 goals and three assists in the last three meetings. Kelly has six career hat tricks in 45 appearances, with three coming against the Tar Heels. Additionally, his career-highs in points (6), goals (4) and assists (3) have all come against UNC.
64 - Maryland's extra-man unit has been a strength in 2017, scoring on 64 percent of its opportunities to rank first nationally. Freshman Jared Bernhardt and junior Colin Heacock have each scored four man-up goals - individual marks that are tied for third in the Big Ten in the category.
172 - Maryland features one of the most prolific attack lines in the country, with Matt Rambo (62), Colin Heacock (60) and Dylan Maltz (50) combining for 172 career appearances. The unit's combined 257 goals is the most among all attack line nationally, while its 369 combined points ranks second.
200 - Senior Matt Rambo needs just three points to reach 200 for his career. He would be just the fifth player in Maryland history to achieve the milestone, joining Bob Boneillo (1977-80), Joe Walters (2003-06), Ray Altman (1961-63) and Frank Urso (1973-76).
