Maryland Wins Eight Events at Hopkins Invite

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Maryland track and field teams produced eight overall first place individual performances at the Hopkins Invitational Friday. The Terps stayed close to home at the Johns Hopkins/Loyola Track & Field Complex in Baltimore, Md. competing against 19 other schools from around the region.

Running Events

Alexa Squirini ran a first-place personal best 4:30.16 to lead Maryland in the women's 1500m race. Vickie Ajimoko also ran a personal best 4:43.65, good for ninth. Paige Novak ran a 4:49.37 while Gaby Go ran a 4:56.06.

Alexa Squirini posted another PR by winning the women's 800m in 2:11.46. Rachelle Alexander finished directly behind her with a second-place 2:13.05. Onwukwe, Bracher and Castellanos finished the same race sixth, 10th, and 16th respectively.

In the women's 400m hurdles, Thaila Cooper led the way with a first place finish (1:02.25).

Patrick Hanley won the men's 3000m steeplechase in 9:43.11 and ran for a third-place 3:57.50 in the men's 1500m race. Aaron Barlev placed fourth in the men's 1500 (3:58.79).

Hazem Miawad torched the competition with a winning time of 49.04 in the men's 400m dash.

In the men's 800m dash, Ryan Scott posted a season best 1:55.22, good for fifth.

Karah O'Halloran ran a ninth-place 18:42.03 in the women's 5k while Erin Causey ran a 14th-place 19:57.42.

In the women's 100m hurdles, Lilly Reese ran a fifth-place 15.28 and Dallyssa Huggins finished sixth with a 15.65.

In the women's 100m dash, Adrienne Minor placed 11th with 12.76 and Dallyssa Huggins came in 14th with a 12.88.

Field Events

Claudia Ababio set yet another personal best this week, this time breaking her record and placing first in the women's shotput with a 15.34m throw.

In the women's triple jump, Tamir Jacobs, Kayla Richardson and Leah Blackall finished one-two-three, jumping 11.45m, 11.39m and 11.34m, respectively. Breanna Coleman finished ninth in the same event with a 10.78m jump.

David Tarcza won the men's high jump with a soaring 1.95m leap.

In the women's hammer throw, Emma O'Hara finished first with a 51.16m throw.

Lilly Reese was the top Terp in the women's long jump, taking sixth with a 5.11m leap.

In the women's javelin throw, Jillian Maloney finished fifth, launching the javelin 33.68m.

The Terrapins return to the track April 21-22 to compete in Charlottesville, Virginia for the second time in two weeks at the UVA Challenge.
