Day One Recap

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – In a rainy day filled with tough competition, the Terps still found ways to shine on the final day of the UVA Challenge.

Lisa Meneau was the fastest 400 meter hurdle runner in the field, winning the event with a mark of 57.81, over eight tenths of a second faster than the second place finisher. Thaila Cooper was 16th, finishing in 1:03.17.

Alexandra Lucki took sixth in a loaded field of over 70 runners in the women's 1500, crossing the line in 4:19.15.

The women's 4x400 relay squad of Meneau, Voelpel, Cooper, Powell capped off the meet for the Terrapins, winning the race with a combined time of 3:40.46.

In the men's 110m hurdles, Diego Lyon placed 13th with a 14.80. In the women's 100m hurdles, Taylor Tucker finished in 14.83 for 25th place.

In the women's long jump, Kayla Richardson took second in the Invitational section of this event with a leap of 6.14m (20'1.75”). Jewel Smith placed first in the open section of the women's long jump, leaping 6.02m (19'9”). On the men's side, Gaston Assoua leaped 7.09 meters for ninth place. In the high jump, Josh Landsman cleared 1.95 meters to tie for third.

Dallyssa Huggins (5229) and Peyton Wade (5149) wrapped up a solid weekend of performances in the heptathlon on the final day of the UVA challenge, finishing in third and sixth, respectively. Among their best performances was Dallyssa Huggins' first place performance in the women's 800m race (2:13.63), her 33.06m javelin throw for second place and Peyton Wade's third place 5.95m long jump.

 

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Terps had excellent throws in the discus competition Saturday in Princeton at the Larry Ellis Invite. Greg Thompson won the men's event, launching the discus 54.35m. Claudia Ababio placed first in the women's event with a throw of 51.85m and also finished third in the women's shot put with a 14.83m throw.

In the women's 800m, Rachelle Alexander took 13th with a mark of 2:15.43 and Alexa Squirini finished behind her with a 2:20.87.
