COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland baseball team hits the road for a three-game set at Indiana this weekend in Bloomington. It will be Maryland's third road Big Ten series of the season.
Coverage of all three games can be heard on the Maryland Baseball Network, with Terps Pregame Live starting 30 minutes before each game. Fans can also watch the action live on BTN Plus via BTN2Go (Game One, Game Two, Game Three).
LEADING IT OFF
• Maryland enters the weekend on a seven-game winning streak after sweeping Michigan State - their third conference sweep of the season. The Terrapins are 27-6 since the beginning of March, and the seven-game winning streak is the second longest of the season (8 straight, March 3-12).
• Junior outfielder Zach Jancarski has hit safely in 14 straight games, Maryland's longest hitting streak of the season, and has reached base in 18 straight games. Jancarski leads Maryland in runs scored with 35 and has been a threat on the basepaths with a team-high 14 steals.
• Sophomore outfielder Marty Costes has emerged as one of the biggest offensive threats in the Big Ten this season. He leads Maryland in multi-RBI games (7) and multi-hit games (17). Costes has reached base in 10 straight games.
• Senior Brandon Gum is second in the Big Ten in on-base percentage with a .458 mark, propelled by .315 average and 24 walks (5th in Big Ten). Gum hit a walk-off solo home run against Penn State to give the Terps a come-from-behind 2-1 win.
• Junior RHP Brian Shaffer was named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Watch List. He leads the Big Ten in ERA at 1.77, the only eligable hurler in the conference with an ERA under 2.00. He paces the conference in innings pitched with 71 and is second in strikeouts with 74.
• Shaffer has begun to creep is way up Maryland's all-time records. He is currently sits 10th in career innings pitched, and is five and two thirds of an inning away from passing former Big Leaguer Eric Milton for seventh on the all-time list. With a victory this weekend, Shaffer would move into third place in career wins, moving ahead of Charles Devereaux.
• Freshman LHP Tyler Blohm has also already entered the history books in his freshman season, With his seventh victory of the season on Sunday, Blohm tied four other Maryland pitchers for 11th all-time on the school's single season victories list. Blohm is four wins away from tying Mike Shawaryn for the single season freshman record (11).
• Redshirt junior right-hander Ryan Selmer leads Maryland in saves with five. Selmer has appeared in 75 career games, the seventh most in Maryland history. Selmer currently holds a 1.54 ERA.
• The 2017 season is head coach John Szefc's fifth season in College Park. Szefc has led the Terps to four straight 30-win seasons and two NCAA Super Regional appearances, both program firsts. He became the fastest coach in Maryland history to win 150 games when the Terps topped Bryant in game one of a doubleheader on 3/12.
• The Terps topped the Big Ten preseason coaches poll while D1Baseball, Perfect Game and Baseball America named Maryland the Big Ten favorites for the 2017 season. It is the third straight year D1Baseball has tabbed the Terps its Big Ten preseason frontrunner.
