
Jones, SWK to Attend WNBA Draft

NEW YORK – Seniors Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough of the Maryland women's basketball team (32-3) have been invited to attend the WNBA Draft 2017 presented by State Farm on Thursday, April 13 at 837 Samsung in New York City.
The first round of the WNBA Draft 2017 will be televised live on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. ESPN2 will provide coverage and analysis of the first round beginning at 7 p.m. ET, and ESPNU will air coverage of the second and third rounds starting at 8 p.m. ET. The San Antonio Stars have the No. 1 overall pick in the draft after winning the WNBA Draft Lottery presented by State Farm in September. The Chicago Sky will pick second, followed by two selections for the Dallas Wings.
Both Jones and Walker-Kimbrough were named were named All-Americans by ESPNW, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and the Associated Press this week.
Jones led the Terrapins in scoring and rebounding with 19.9 points and 10.9 boards per game. Her 697 points this season set a school record for points in a season. She led the nation in field goal percentage at 69.0 percent for the second straight year.
Walker-Kimbrough averaged 18.8 points per game while shooting 45.0 percent. She also had 125 assists. Walker-Kimbrough is No. 4 on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 2,156 career points. Her career three-point percentage of 45.9 percent is the best in Maryland history, ahead of Toliver's 40.8 percent, and is a Big Ten record.
Jones' career field goal percentage of 65.0 percent is a Big Ten record as well. She is No. 3 on Maryland's rebounding list with 1,209 career boards and tied Vicky Bullet for No. 5 on Maryland's scoring list with 1,928 points.
Jones and Walker-Kimbrough were two of 14 players in the country named to the Wooden Award National Ballot. Jones was one of 10 semifinalists for the Naismith Trophy. They have earned a record of 125-17 (.880) in their careers. They led the Terrapins to three Big Ten regular season and tournament titles, the 2014 and 2015 Final Fours and the 2017 Sweet Sixteen.
Head coach Brenda Frese has coached 13 total WNBA draft picks, including eight in the top 10. Fifteen Terrapins over the years have been drafted, including Brene Moseley last season by the Indiana Fever and Laurin Mincy in 2015 by the New York Liberty.
Alyssa Thomas was the fourth overall pick in 2014 by the Liberty and was traded to the Connecticut Sun. Tianna Hawkins went sixth overall in 2013, and Lynetta Kizer and Anjale Barrett were drafted in 2012. Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver went second and third overall in 2009, Crystal Langhorne and Laura Harper were No. 6 and No. 10 overall in 2008 and Shay Doron was a second round pick in 2007.
