
Meneau, Powell Advance to Regional Quarterfinals

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Seniors Lisa Meneau and Micha Powell both advanced to Friday's quarterfinals in their respective events on Thursday's opening round of competition at the NCAA East Regional. The pair will return to the track Sunday to vie for a qualifying spot at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon June 7-10.
Meneau advanced to Friday's 400 meter hurdle quarterfinals after placing second in her heat. Her time of 58.92 was good for 10th in the opening round field, as she earned an automatic bid and will race tomorrow at approximately 7:00 pm.
Powell locked up a spot in tomorrow's quarterfinals after running the eighth fastest time in Friday's field with a mark of 53.19. The Toronto, Ontario native was second in her heat to earn the AQ spot, and is set to race Friday at 5:30 pm.
Both Meneau and Powell will need either a top-3 finish in their quarterfinal heat, or one of the next three fastest time to secure a trip to Eugene.
Junior Alexandra Lucki came up just short in the women's 1500m first round, running 4:25.04 to take 27th overall and seventh in her heat. Lucki will look to make her third career NCAA Regional appearance next season when she returns to competition for the Terps.
Junior Emma O'Hara completed a solid first year with the Terrapins Friday, tossing 173-11 in the women's hammer throw at her third career NCAA East Regional meet. The St. Frances (PA) transfer broke the school record in the hammer throw (191-04) earlier this season, and will again be a force in the throwing events for the Terps next season.
Sophomore Jewel Smith and junior Kayla Richardson and rounded out the day in the long jump, as the pair both finished inside the top-30 in their first NCAA Regional appearances. Smith led the way with a leap of 19-7½ to take 26th, while Richardson was 30th jumping 19-6¾.
Juniors Claudia Ababio (discus) and Peyton Wade (high jump) will both make their debuts for the Terps tomorrow when action resumes at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
