
Terps Face PSU in Big Ten Semis Thursday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The top-seeded Maryland men's lacrosse team (10-3) is set to defend its Big Ten Tournament crown as it takes on 4-seed Penn State (12-2) in the semifinals for the second consecutive season on Thursday, May 4. The game is set for 5 pm on Big Ten Network, with the second semifinal between 2-seed Ohio State and 3-seed Johns Hopkins to follow.
BY THE NUMBERS
1 - Senior Matt Rambo became maryland's all-time points leader points in emphatic fashion against rival Johns Hopkins with seven points in the game. He needed six points to break Bob Boneillo's ('80) record of 231, and achieved the milestone less than 18 minutes into the game.
2 - Maryland is looking to win its second consecutive Big Ten Tournament and sixth conference tournament crown overall. The Terps cruised through the 2016 tournament, as then-junior Matt Rambo was named Big Ten Tournament MVP with 11 total points on six goals and five assists.
3 - Maryland clinched its third regular season Big Ten title in three years, including second straight outright, with a 12-5 victory over rival Johns Hopkins last weekend. The Terps are a league-best 15-3 overall against Big Ten opponents since joining the conference.
6 - The Terrapins led the entire Big Ten Conference with six all-conference selections (1st Team: Connor Kelly, Tim Muller, Matt Rambo; 2nd Team: Isaiah Davis-Allen, Colin Heacock, Tim Rotanz). John Tillman was named B1G Coach of the Year, while Rambo was Offensive POY and Muller was Defensive POY.
13 - The Terrapin offense is currently averaging 13.1 goals this season, which is on pace to be the most in a season for Maryland in the 21st century (last: 1998). Maryland has scored at least 10 goals in 22 of their last 23 games.
15 - The Terrapins recently clinched their 15th straight 10-win season to further extend an active NCAA-long streak that began in 2003. In terms of history, only Syracuse's 17-year 10-win streak (1988-2004) is longer all-time. Maryland is also on the verge of its NCAA-long 15th straight NCAA Tournament.
28 - Maryland has made a habit of jumping to strong starts, outscoring opponents by 28 goals in the first quarter (55 to 27). This trend continued against Johns Hopkins with a 6-0 first quarter advantage. The Terps are 64-9 under John Tillman when leading after the first quarter.
34 - Senior attackman Matt Rambo had one of the most prolific runs in postseason history in 2016, totaling 34 points in six games (5.6 pts/g). Including the 13 games since that run, Rambo has totaled 97 points over his last 19 games (5.1 pts/g). He needs just eight goals to break Joe Walters' record (153).
90 - Head coach John Tillman is currently tied with the legendary Bud Beardmore (1970-80) for fourth on Maryland's career victories list at Maryland with 90. Tillman is 90-29 since taking over the program in 2011, carrying a win percentage of .754.
190 - Maryland has one of the most seasoned & prolific attack lines in the country, with seniors Matt Rambo (69), Colin Heacock (67) and Dylan Maltz (57) combining for 193 career appearances. The unit's 435 total points are tied for the most among attack trios nationally with Duke.
