
Brionna Jones Signs Off-Season Contract in Russia

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Former Maryland women's basketball center Brionna Jones will play in Russia this off-season. Jones signed with the team Nadezhda Orenburg earlier this month.
The team is located in Orenburg, Russia, and is in the Russian league. Last year, the team went 21-6 in Russian league play. Click here for the full release.
Jones was the eighth overall pick in this year's WNBA Draft and went to the Connecticut Sun. She is averaging 3.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game so far.
Head coach Brenda Frese has coached 13 total WNBA draft picks, including 10 in the top 10. Seventeen Terrapins over the years have been drafted, including Shatori Walker-Kimbrough at No. 6, Brene Moseley last season by the Indiana Fever and Laurin Mincy in 2015 by the New York Liberty.
Alyssa Thomas was the fourth overall pick in 2014 by the Liberty and was traded to the Connecticut Sun. Tianna Hawkins went sixth overall in 2013, and Lynetta Kizer and Anjale Barrett were drafted in 2012. Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver went second and third overall in 2009, Crystal Langhorne and Laura Harper were No. 6 and No. 10 overall in 2008 and Shay Doron was a first round pick in 2007.
