SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Senior Jake Rozhansky scored two goals to lead No. 6 Maryland to a 4-2 season-opening win at Santa Clara Friday night.

The Terps also picked up scoring from junior Eryk Williamson and freshman Eric Matzelevich. Dayne St. Clair picked up the win at keeper. Friday night marked the first game of head coach Sasho Cirovski's 25th season.

After Santa Clara struck first with a Brandon Gillingham goal in the third minute, the Terps responded with three unanswered goals in the first half.

After a George Campbell shot from deep rebounded off the keeper, Williamson calmly gathered the bounce and punched it off the crossbar into the back of the goal for the early equalizer in the 27th minute.

Freshman Eric Matzelevich entered the match for Sebastian Elney at 36:32 and wasted no time making his mark, scoring his first collegiate goal a mere 50 seconds later. The rookie from Washington, D.C., struck from the top of the box off an assist from Rozhansky.

Williamson posted a great dish on the counterattack to a streaking Rozhansky who easily finished to the keeper's right from 12 yards for the 3-1 lead with five minutes to go in the first half.

Santa Clara cut Maryland's cushion to one with a free kick score just outside the box by Valdemar Anderson in the 78th minute.

Rozhansky netted his second goal of the match with a score out of a scrum in the middle of the box with less than three minutes to go.

Maryland returns to action with its home opener on Monday against Hofstra. Kickoff against the Pride is slated for 7 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
