COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland women's basketball team welcomed adaptive physical education students from Prince George's County Public Schools and the Special Olympics for a clinic Thursday morning at the XFINITY Center.
Head coach Brenda Frese, the coaching staff and all 10 Terrapins were on-hand to run stations in shooting, passing, ball-handling and fitness. After the stations, the athletes played in 5-on-5 games.
"We had a really good time showing them some basketball," sophomore Sarah Myers said. "It's really special for us. It's awesome to get in here and see the fun side of basketball. I think it's really special for the students to be around some role models and some of them were saying they see us on TV. It's fun for them to be around us and for us to be around them."
"They were very much looking forward to today," Adaptive Physical Education teach Melissa Powers said. "Anytime they get to be around the college athletes, they're very excited as soon as they walk in. They enjoy getting to go through the different stations and getting to play games with them at the end."
Next, the 14th-ranked Terrapins (16-3, 5-1 B1G) will host No. 8 Ohio State (16-3, 5-1) Monday at 7 p.m. in College Park. For tickets, call the Terrapin Ticket Office at 1-800-IM-A-TERP or click here.
