Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#2 Terrapins Blank Hoosiers, 4-0

BLOOMINGTON Ind. –  The second-ranked Maryland field hockey team (14-1, 5-1 B1G) scored 12 seconds in and never looked back in a dominant, 4-0 win at Indiana Friday afternoon.

The Terrapins held the Hoosiers (4-10, 1-5) without a shot through all 70 minutes. On the offensive end of the field, Maryland took 20 shots and scored three goals in the opening period, two by senior tri-captain Linnea Gonzales.

"What I love to see in this game is that we had a mentality," head coach Missy Meharg said. "When you understand how to play with high intensity, it changes the game. We were spot on and we worked our communication out. Bodil Keus, Hannah Bond, Riley Donnelly and Sarah Holliday were exceptional. When you have good, early communication among your defense and goalkeeper, you're not going to give up many shots."

Junior Madison Maguire wasted no time getting the Terrapins on the board as she finished off on their first possession of the game. She took a pass from sophomore Kyler Greenwalt in front of the goal and tapped it in past the keeper for the score just 12 seconds in.

Thirteen minutes into the match, Gonzales scored her first of the day when she buried a shot off a penalty corner. She took a pass from sophomore Bodil Keus and it ricocheted in for the two-goal lead.

Almost 10 minutes later, Gonzales struck again, this time she scored off a shot near the baseline off a pass from junior tri-captain Kelee Lepage. Maryland led 3-0 in the 22nd minute and into the second half.

With just under 11 minutes to play in the game, redshirt freshman Mayv Clune brought the ball into the circle from the left side and scored the Terps' fourth and final goal.

Gonzales is leading Maryland with 12 goals this season. Maryland has 10 scorers with multiple goals and 12 total Terps have found the goal line.

The Terps will take on No. 8 Iowa (11-3, 3-2) Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Iowa City. The Terps-Hawkeyes matchup will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
