#2 Maryland to Travel to Indiana, #8 Iowa

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The second-ranked Maryland field hockey team (13-1, 4-1 B1G) is set for a pair of Big Ten matchups on the road this weekend. The Terps will travel to Bloomington to face Indiana (4-9, 1-4) Friday at 3 p.m. ET. They will take on No. 8 Iowa (11-3, 3-2) Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Iowa City. The Terps-Hawkeyes matchup will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW
• Maryland is coming off of a 3-1 win over No. 15 Rutgers Friday and a 3-1 loss at No. 7 Penn State Sunday. Against Rutgers, Kyler Greenwalt scored five minutes in, then Bibi Donraadt scored twice more in the first half. At Penn State, the Nittany Lions scored once in the first half, then twice more in the second. Nike Lorenz converted a penalty stroke in the 66th minute.
• Senior tri-captain Linnea Gonzales and junior Nike Lorenz are leading Maryland with 10 goals this season. Maryland has nine scorers with multiple goals and 12 total Terps have found the goal line.
• Lorenz and Gonzales are Nos. 2 and 3 in the Big Ten in goals per game. Madison Maguire is No. 2 in the league and No. 7 in the country in assists with 0.71 per contest.
• Head coach Missy Meharg is in her 31st season as head coach of the Terrapins. She's led them to a record of 556-136-9 (.800), seven NCAA titles, 23 conference titles and 17 Final Fours. She has been named NFHCA National Coach of the Year an unprecedented nine times in her career.
SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS
• Indiana is 4-9 on the year and 1-4 in Big Ten play. Most recently, the Hoosiers beat Michigan State, 1-0, and St. Louis, 3-1, last weekend.
• Kelsey Giese is leading Indiana with three goals this year.
• Maryland leads the all-time series with Indiana, 5-0 and is 2-0 vs. the Hoosiers at the IU Field Hockey Complex.
• Most recently, the Terrapins won 3-1 at Indiana on Sept. 15 last year. Linnea Gonzales scored the first goal.
SCOUTING THE HAWKEYES
• No. 8 Iowa is 11-3 overall and 4-1 in Big Ten play. Most recently, the Hawkeyes lost to No. 6 Michigan, 2-1, and beat No. 21 Stanford, 3-0, last weekend.
• Maddy Murphy is leading Iowa with 10 goals this year.
• Maryland leads the all-time series with Iowa, 13-3-1 and is 3-1 at the Hawkeyes' Grant Field.
• Most recently, Maryland won 2-1 in College Park last year on Sept. 22. The teams were scoreless through 60 minutes, then Madison Maguire scored with 9:50 to go and Linnea Gonzales scored again two minutes later.

The Terrapins joined the Big Ten conference in 2014, after playing in the ACC for 31 years. Big Ten field hockey is the largest conference in the history of the sport in the NCAA with nine teams - Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers and Maryland.• The Terps are 122-39-3 (.753) all-time against Big Ten opponents.
• Head coach Missy Meharg is 105-19-1 (.844) vs. Big Ten opponents in her 30 years at the helm of the Maryland field hockey program.
• Since joining the league in 2014, the Terps are 32-5 in conference play.
• The Terrapins are 42-3 (.933) vs. Big Ten teams at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
• The Terrapins won the first Big Ten title for the University of Maryland with a 4-1 win over No. 14 Iowa on Nov. 1, 2014 in College Park.
HOME SWEET HOME
Since its opening in 2003, the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has provided the Maryland hockey program a huge home field advantage.• The Terps are 174-20 (.897) all-time at the Complex.
• Maryland won 38 straight games at the Complex from Oct.11, 2008 through Oct. 14, 2011. The streak ended with a 5-2 loss to then-No. 1 Old Dominion.
• The Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has played home to 26 of Maryland's NCAA Tournament games and has played host to three Final Fours (2007, 2010, 2014). The Terrapins are 23-3 in those games and won the 2010 national title on their home field.
PACK THE HOUSE
• The Maryland field hockey team has increasingly attracted more and more fans to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex season after season. The Terrapins have led the nation in attendance in five of the last eight years.
• An NCAA-record crowd of 2,381 came out to watch as Maryland beat North Carolina 3-2 in double overtime for the 2010 national championship at the Complex.
THREE TERPS EARN PRESEASON BIG TEN HONORS
• Senior Linnea Gonzales, junior Kelee Lepage and sophomore Brooke DeBerdine were named to the Big Ten Players to Watch list in August. The full list, click HERE.
• This marks Gonzales' fourth straight year earning Big Ten Preseason honors. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2015 and All-Big Ten First Team honors last season. Gonzales is the Terps' second leading returning scorer with 10 goals last season, including three in their NCAA Tournament run to the national championship game.
• Lepage started in 12 of 22 games as a sophomore last year. She scored one goal in a game at Michigan State and notched three assists.
• As a freshman last season, DeBerdine started in all 23 games and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.
CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
• Seniors Linnea Gonzales, Julie Duncan and junior Kelee Lepage were voted team captains before the season. The full list, click HERE.
• The trio was votes on by their peers after a team vote. All three Terps are new to the captainship role.
OVERTIME IS TERPS TIME
During Missy Meharg's tenure, the Terrapins have become one of the nation's most dangerous teams in overtime.
• The Terps are 65-25 (.722) all-time in games that went to overtime or penalty strokes.
• In Meharg's tenure, the Terps are 54-21 (.720) in overtime or penalty strokes games.
STAFF UPDATES
• The Terrapins welcome two new assistant staff members in 2018. Kati Nearhouse comes on board as the team's Director of Operations and former Terrapin Kasey Tapman joins as the team's volunteer assistant coach.
• Nearhouse comes to Maryland after spending the 2017 season as an assistant coach at Bryant. Prior to her time at Bryant, Nearhouse worked for two seasons at her alma mater, Syracuse, as the Director of Operations for field hockey. She played her first three seasons at Old Dominion before transferring to Syracuse to finish her career. As a player, Nearhouse was named an NFHCA Division I Second Team All-American after a standout sophomore campaign in 2011. That season, she started 25 games and tallied 21 points off eight goals and five assists, leading the Lady Monarchs to the Final Four.
• Tapman was a part of five Maryland field hockey teams, including a redshirt season. She played in 77 career games. She helped the Terps to the 2011 NCAA title and three total NCAA Final Fours. In her time in College Park, Maryland won four conference titles. She is currently on the U.S. National Team's Developmental Squad.
TERPS ON NATIONAL TEAMS
• Nine Terrapins, former and present, are currently on USA Field Hockey's national team rosters.
• Jill (Witmer) Funk competed with Team USA in the Rio Olympics last summer, along with former volunteer assistant coach Stefanie Fee. Former Terrapin Megan Frazer is on the Irish National Team and current Terp Nike Lorenz plays for Team Germany.
• Recent grads Anna Dessoye and Alyssa Parker are on the U.S. Women's National Team. Seniors Linnea Gonzales, Sabrina Rhodes and volunteer assistant coach Kasey Tapman are on the U.S. Developmental Squad.
• Current Terps Brooke DeBerdine, Kyler Greenwalt are on the U.S. Under-21 Team.
