COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland gymnastics head coach
Brett Nelligan announced the squad's 2018-2019 schedule, which features home meets against Michigan and Ohio State. The Terps enter the season after and NCAA Regional appearance last year.
"I'm really excited about our schedule this season," Nelligan said. "We have some exciting home meets and get to see some new venues on the road. We really caught fire towards the end of last season and we're looking to pick up right where we left off."
The GymTerps will be headlined by returning all-around competitors, sophomore
Audrey Barber and juniors
Alecia Farina and
Kirsten Peterman. Barber and Farina earned All-Big Ten honors last season. Maryland, which finished just outside the top-25 to end last season, will face six teams that finished the 2018 season ranked.
Maryland fans will have a chance to get a first look this year's squad at the annual Black-Red meet on Thursday, Dec. 6 in the XFINITY Center Pavilion.
The Terps start the season in College Park where they will host Penn, Cortland and WCU on Sunday, Jan. 13 in the XFINITY Center Pavilion at noon. Maryland will travel to Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. The Terrapins will return home to host another Big Ten foe in Michigan. The meet will take place on Saturday, January 26 in the XFINITY Center.
The Terps will take their talents north to meet Rutgers on Saturday, Feb. 2 followed by a home meet with Ohio State in College Park at 7 p.m. before a three-week hiatus from XFINITY Center.
Maryland travels to Minnesota to face the Golden Gophers on Friday, Feb. 15 before heading to Toledo Ohio., for the B1G 5 Meet, scheduled for Friday, February 22 at 7 p.m., which takes place in conjunction with the Elevate the Stage Meet. The Terrapins will return to Washington D.C where fans can come catch Maryland compete with George Washington and BYU on Friday, March 1.
The Terps will then host George Washington on Monday, March 4 and will end the week traveling to Philadelphia to face Temple on Friday, March 8.
Maryland hosts Brown, SCSU and Penn on Sunday, March 17 in the XFINITY Center Pavilion followed by the regular season finale where the GymTerps will travel to Towson, Md. to take on Towson, Pitt, UNH and George Washington on Sunday, March 17.
The Big Ten Championships will be hosted by Penn State at State College, Pa. on Saturday, March 23.
