Throughout the 2018-19 season, umterps.com will run a Q&A series with members of the Maryland wrestling team and staff. Fans will get to know more about their background and wrestling history, as well as some fun facts they may not have known before. Next up: Tahron Sheffield.
On his time at Keystone College last year:
"It showed me that no matter what division you're wrestling at, the expectations for college wrestlers are extremely high. College is a big jump from high school, so it showed me that I need to work and train harder to compete at a high level."
On what brought him to Maryland:
"I liked Coach McCoy a lot. One of my high school coaches was very good friends with Coach McCoy and said great things about wrestling for him. Along with that, the academics and overall team atmosphere were also extremely important to me."
On what he's liked about Maryland:
"I really like the diversity here. Everything here feels like a family and I think it's a great place for me to grow and develop."
On his favorite wrestling memory:
"In high school I was able to beat a kid who ended up placing third at Prep Nationals. I beat him 6-4 in overtime and I think that was one of my best wins in my career. It was cool seeing him take third at nationals later that year."
On how he would describe himself as a wrestler:
"I'd say I'm a strong, athletic wrestler. I also think I'm a pretty quick learner."
On his goals for this season:
"I want to become the best wrestler I can. Hopefully I continue working hard enough so I can eventually become a starter for this team."
Favorite food in College Park:
"Marathon Deli"
Favorite sports movie:
"Rookie of the Year"
Hobbies outside of wrestling:
"I love playing and watching basketball. I'm a big fan of the Warriors."
Favorite music artist:
"Lil Baby"
