Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bin’s Overtime Winner Lifts Terps Past Penn State

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Junior Paul Bin scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime period to push the Maryland men's soccer team (7-5-3, 4-3-0 B1G) past Penn State (5-8-2, 2-3-2 B1G), 3-2, on Tuesday.

Bin was a spark for the home side, putting immediate pressure on the defense after checking in with just six minutes remaining in regulation. His game-winner gives Maryland a three-match winning streak, which is its longest this season.

"I'm so proud of our guys right now," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "We were on the front foot the entire first half and took a 2-0 lead. They were then able to score two world-class goals. You have to credit Penn State on that. But, we came into overtime wanting to win this game. I thought we imposed ourselves from the first second of overtime and we were the deserving winner of this game. This is the most satisfying victory of the year because it had a little bit of everything. We had a really good start, we were challenged, but then we found the resolve and pushed for the win. Paul Bin was not going to play, but we needed him and he came through in a big way. Vinicius Lansade came in and got his first goal right away. Our team is trending in the right direction and this was a huge win for us."

The Terrapins were out front early, and capitalized when Lansade scored his first-career goal in the 27th minute. Lansade remained composed in the box, eventually powering a loose ball by the Nittany Lion keeper.

Maryland then found the second goal of the evening, as Amar Sejdic tallied his team-best fifth goal of the season. Sejdic found the back of the net with a strong left-footed strike, and the goal was his third in Maryland's last two matches.

Penn State was then able to put a dent in Maryland's advantage just before halftime, scoring with just two seconds left on the clock.

With both sides unable to get much going offensively in the second half, Maryland's lead remained in tact for most of the second half. However, Penn State found the equalizer in the 84th minute, sending Maryland into its sixth overtime battle of the season.

Maryland earned the only quality chance of the first overtime period, but Justin Gielen's headed attempt at goal was saved in the 99th minute.

Bin then ended the match in the second overtime period, tucking a ball into the bottom left corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Bin has now scored in three-straight appearances, dating back to Maryland's contest against Indiana on Oct. 12.

Maryland will wrap up its regular season with a road match at Michigan on Sunday. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m., and will air on BTN.
