Terps Take On Penn State Tuesday Night

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Looking for its third straight win, the Maryland men's soccer team hosts Penn State in its last regular season home match of the season. Maryland is coming off victories against then-No. 7 Denver and Ohio State last week.

Storylines
  • The Terps stormed to a 5-0 victory against Ohio State last Friday, notching its highest total of goals and largest margin of victory this season. Amar Sejdic (2), Sebastian Elney, Donovan Pines and Mike Heitzmann tallied the goals. The Terps last 5-0 win came on April 29, 2016 against Hartford.
  • In that match with Ohio State, Chase Gasper notched three assists, tying a Maryland program record held by eight other players. The feat was most recently accomplished by Stephen King on Nov. 3, 2007 against Virginia.
  • Maryland is 23-19-0 against Penn State all-time. The Terps have won all four meetings between the teams since the Terps entered the Big Ten.
  • Despite being just one game over .500, the Terps sit with a 19 RPI with two regular season games remaining. Maryland has played the sixth toughest schedule in the country.
  • An imposing figure at 6'5, Donovan Pines scored his first career headed goal against Ohio State on Friday. Pines added the goal to what has been an outstanding season that has seen him transform into one of the top centerbacks in the country.
  • After two shutouts last week, Dayne St. Clair now has seven for the season, which ranks eighth in the country and second in the Big Ten. St. Clair leads the conference in save percentage (.814) and is third in goals against average (.739).
  • Junior Paul Bin scored his third goal of the season in the fifth minute to lead the Terps to their biggest win of the season, a 1-0 victory over then-No. 7 Denver. Bin is now tied with William James Herve and Amar Sejdic for the team lead in points.
  • The Terps rank No. 2 in the nation in average attendance this season with 3,316. Maryland boasts two of the top five single game attendances in the country this season, drawing 5,875 against Wisconsin and 5,802 against Stanford.
Honoring the Past
  • The Maryland men's soccer program honored the 50th anniversary of its first-ever national championship by welcoming back members of the 1968 title winning squad to Friday night's match against Michigan State. The team was recognized on the field prior to the Terrapins' nationally televised match with the Spartans. Maryland and Michigan State shared that 1968 national title after the two teams played to a 2-2 draw and were named co-champions.
  • Maryland's 1968 season was one of the finest seasons in program history. The Terrapins were the lone undefeated team in college soccer that year, finishing with a 14-0-1 record, and captured their 16th consecutive ACC title. The squad is one of three Maryland teams to finish the entire season unbeaten (1947, 1958).
