
McFarland Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After rushing for 298 yards and a pair of touchdowns against No. 9 Ohio State, running back Anthony McFarland has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
McFarland's 298 rushing yards on 21 carries (14.2 yards per carry) was the second most in a game for a Terp (LaMont Jordan, 306 yards, 1999). McFarland, who also earned Big Ten Rookie of the Week honors on September 24, has now rushed for over 200 yards in consecutive games.
With his big performance against the Buckeyes, McFarland eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the year, currently standing at 1,022 yards. He's the 10th player in program history to reach the 1,000-yard mark in a season, and he's the first freshman.
McFarland rushed for 253 yards in the first half, the most ever by a Maryland running back in the first half of a game. He also posted the most rushing yards by any FBS player in the first quarter of a game this season (175). McFarland had touchdown runs of 81 and 75 yards against the Buckeyes.
Maryland has garnered eight Big Ten weekly awards, from six players different players, the most ever for a Terps team since joining the Big Ten in 2014.
Maryland wraps up the regular season on Saturday at No. 15 Penn State. The game is set to kick at 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ABC and the Maryland Sports Radio Network.
