Austin Picks Up Second Weekly Honor

ROSEMONT, Ill. – In just her second week as a Terrapin, rookie Shakira Austin picked up her second Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor Monday. The 6-5 forward averaged 9.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks in two road wins for No. 9 Maryland (4-0) this week.
In the Terrapins' 85-61 win at No. 10 South Carolina Sunday, Austin went 5-for-8 from the field for 10 points, 16 rebounds and a block in the top 10 road win.
At George Washington Wednesday, she added 8 points, 12 boards, 5 blocks and 2 steals.
Through the first four games of her career, Austin is averaging 11.0 points, 13.8 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game, which leads the league.
Stephanie Jones scored 18 points and Channise Lewis had 10 points and a career high 12 assists to help the Terrapins beat the Gamecocks (2-1).
The Terrapins (4-0) fell behind 18-6 as the Gamecocks blitzed them in the first five minutes. But Maryland then went on a 26-1 run, scoring on 12 of their next 15 possessions.
Next, the Terrapins will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico to play in the Puerto Rico Clasico tournament over Thanksgiving. They will take on Morgan State (1-2) Friday and No. 14 Georgia (2-2) Saturday. Both games will be played at noon ET and will be streamed live online here.
