Young, Shockey Earn Weekly Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Bryce Young has been named Big Ten Defender of the Week and freshman Justin Shockey has been named Specialist of the Week after standout performances in the Maryland men's lacrosse team's win over North Carolina last weekend.

It marks Shockey's second Big Ten honor of the season and the first of Young's career.

Young was also named to the USILA National Team of the Week.

Young anchored a stout Maryland defense that held the Tar Heels to just seven goals, while picking up three ground balls. His biggest play of the game came on the offensive end, however, when he scored a massive transition goal in the fourth quarter to ignite the sellout crowd and solidify the win for the Terps.

Shockey was the catalyst in the win for the Terrapins, winning 16-of-20 (.800) faceoffs and picking up a career-high 12 ground balls. Shockey now leads all freshmen nationally with a .609 winning percentage.

Young, Shockey and the Terps return to action Saturday when they open Big Ten play in Ann Arbor against No. 17 Michigan at noon on Big Ten Network.
