DIAMOND NOTES
• Maryland opens its Big Ten slate this weekend as Northwestern comes to College Park for a three-game set. The Wildcats took two out of three from the Terps in College Park last year and the teams split a pair of meetings at the Big Ten Tournament in Bloomington, Ind.
• Junior Nick Dunn was recently tabbed the second best second baseman in the country in D1Baseball.com's position-by-position power rankings. Dunn paces Maryland in average (.330), runs (21), doubles (7), home runs (6), slugging percentage (.604) and on-base percentage (.438).
• Senior Taylor Bloom has been one of the most productive pitchers in Maryland history. He comes into Friday with 266.2 innings pitched, which sits seventh in school history. A six-inning appearance on Friday would lift him past Brian Shaffer into fourth. A victory would give Bloom 18 for his career and tie Charles Devereux for fourth in program history.
• Senior Kevin Biondic has done it all for Maryland this season. He is second on the team with a .283 average and leads the team with three triples. On the mound, Biondic boasts a 0.82 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched out of the bullpen. The Oak Lawn, Ill. native has also flashed an incredible glove at first base.
• Junior John Murphy joins Biondic at the back of Maryland's bullpen. Murphy has struck out 20 in 11.1 IP and the opposition is batting just .175 against him.
• Maryland right-hander Hunter Parsons has been fantastic over his last four starts, recording a 0.84 ERA over 32 innings pitched and has struck out 23 to three walks. Parsons earned Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week after his two-hit, complete game shutout performance against Stetson. Parsons struck out a career high nine batters and did not walk any, completing the start in 101 pitches. He retired the first 11 batters he faced.
• Sophomore left-hander Tyler Blohm notched his best start of the season against Stetson on Saturday. The Severna Park native notched a career high 12 strikeouts over eight innings. He allowed just four hits and one walk.
