ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The top-seeded Maryland lacrosse team opens Big Ten Tournament play against 4-seed Rutgers Thursday evening at 4 pm* in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Terps have won 14 consecutive night games, in addition to 11 straight games away from home.
* The game was originally scheduled for 5 pm, but was moved ahead an hour in advance of potential inclement weather. It will still air live on Big Ten Network.
BY THE NUMBERS
2 - The Terrapin specialist units are both among the best in the country, with the man-up unit ranking second and the man-down ninth. The Terrapin man-up unit is scoring at a 60-percent (21-of-35) clip, as Jared Bernhardt leads the Big Ten with seven man-up goals. Meanwhile, the man-down unit has allowed just four goals on 25 attempts (.160) over its last eight games.
3 - Maryland is looking to clinch its third consecuitve Big Ten Tournament title, having won the championship in both 2016 and 2017. Prior to joining the Big Ten, the Terps won four ACC Tournament titles during the tournament era from 1989-2014. The Terps are 4-1 overall in Big Ten Tournament play.
3 - Junior Will Snider was the hero in Maryland's win over Johns Hopkins last weekend to clinch the Big Ten regular season title, scoring the game-tying goal and the triple overtime winner. He entered the game with just three career goals to his name. Dan Morris made 13 saves in net.
5 - The Terps had five players named to the All-Big Ten teams announced Tuesday. Connor Kelly, who was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, and Jared Bernhardt were on the first team, while Bryce Young, Dan Morris and Curtis Corley were on the second team. Head coach John Tillman was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
8 - Senior midfielder Connor Kelly totaled eight points on four goals and four assists to lead the Terps to an 11-10 victory over Rutgers earlier this season on April 15. Trailing, 9-8, with less than five minutes to play, Maryland scored three goals in a span of 1:20 to secure the win.
9 - Connor Kelly returns to the Big Ten Tournament as its reigning Most Valuable Player, having scored nine goals in two games. In fact, Kelly has dominated the tournament the last two seasons with 17 goals in four games to his name. He has twice been named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team (2017, 2016).
28 - The Terps hold a 28-1 all-time advantage in the series against Rutgers dating back to the inaugural meeting in 1931. Maryland is 5-0 against the Scarlet Knights as Big Ten foes, including a 16-8 victory in the 2016 Big Ten Championship game.
29 - Redshirt freshman Logan Wisnauskas has totaled 29 goals on the season, which is tied for fourth in program history among freshmen. He is quickly closing in on the program's freshmen record (36) set by Matt Hahn in 1995. Wisnauskas' 36 points are equal to Matt Rambo's 36 as a freshman in 2014.
30 - Connor Kelly now has 36 goals and 30 assists on the season, becoming just the fourth player in Maryland's illustrious history to join the 30/30 club. Matt Rambo achieved the feat both in 2016 and 2017, while Bob Boneillo achieved the feat in 1979 and Ed Mullen in 1976.
