Huskers Take Series From Terps

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Maryland baseball team dropped a rubber game to Nebraska, 5-2, at Haymarket Park Sunday afternoon.

The Terrapins (20-27, 6-10 Big Ten) could not get rolling offensively against Husker starter Matt Warren and Nebraska was able to do enough to get the lead off Terps starter Taylor Bloom. Bloom was solid overall, giving up four earned over seven innings.

The game was a pitchers duel through three innings as Warren efficiently worked through the Terps order and Bloom sat down the first nine batters he faced. Scott Schreiber hit a solo home run to break the tie and give Nebraska the lead.

Nebraska proceeded to plate three in the fifth and another run in the eighth. Maryland did threaten in the third, fifth and eighth, but double plays stymied all three rallies. The Terps did scramble for two runs off shutdown Nebraska closer Jake Hohensee in the ninth, but could not come all the way back.

Senior Justin Morris had two hits and an RBI in the ballgame. Freshman Randy Bednar notched a two-hit game out of the nine spot in the lineup.

Maryland returns to action Wednesday against Towson at 4 p.m. at Bob “Turtle” Stadium. Coverage of the game can be heard live on the Maryland Baseball Network.
