Throughout the 2018-19 season, umterps.com will run a Q&A series with members of the Maryland wrestling team and staff. Fans will get to know more about their background and wrestling history, as well as some fun facts they may not have known before. First up this season is freshman 133-pounder Orion Anderson!
On if he remembers all eight losses from high school:
"The majority of them were when I was in eighth grade, so some of those might be tough to remember. But I definitely know all the losses after that. The last one was the Eastern State Finals in my senior year."
On winning three state championships in high school:
"I loved wrestling in high school. If I could go back and do it again, I absolutely would. Even though by the end I was confident that I was going to win the state title, it was still fun competing on that level. Now that I'm here, I just have new goals that I'll hopefully achieve."
On what brought him to Maryland:
"I've been friends with Kyle Jasenski since high school, so that definitely helped. I was committed to another school pretty early, but when Maryland came through I was very happy with this option and I'm very happy to be here. Once I got an offer from Maryland I knew I was coming here."
On what he's most excited about for this season:
"I'm looking forward to trying my best to make the team and do as well as I can whenever I'm out on the mat."
On his favorite thing about college so far:
"Probably the freedom and ability to make decisions on my own."
Best spot to eat in College Park:
"I'm a big fan of Marathon Deli. I always get a gyro there and the owner loves wrestlers so he always likes when we come in."
Hobbies outside of wrestling:
"I love fly fishing. I also like hunting and I'm a pretty big outdoorsman so I like that kind of stuff a lot."
Favorite music genre:
"It all really depends on the mood I'm in. I'll listen to country, rap, rock and anything else really. Before matches I usually listen to some rock to get pumped up."
