BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Terrapin Squad competed for the first time as a full group this weekend out at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational. As a team, the Maryland contingent finished 14th overall among the 41 competing teams in the varsity gold race.
Leading the way was Emily Bracher. The senior had a breakout season last fall in cross-country and picked up where she left off. She covered the 6km course in 21:17 to finish 26th out of over 350 competitors.
Next to the finish line was Kathryn Gearhart, who crossed the line in 21:42 for her debut race of the season. Gearhart came back hungry after an injury left her sidelined for the 2017 cross-country season.
Brittany Lang was the third Maryland finisher to cross the line, completing the 6k course in 22:05 for a solid opening race. Sophomore, Christine Laurie, finished in 22:11, only a few place finishes off of her teammate to contribute to the team scoring. Paige Novak completed the scoring for the team, coming through to the finish as the 5th finisher.
Ten individuals represented Maryland in the gold varsity race also including Caroline Augelli, who has been a steady contributor. Augelli was the 6th Terp across the line. Anna Latzkoran her first race for the squad and finished in the 7th position for the team. Molly Barrick, Courtney Mann, and Jasmine Tiamfook also lined up for the Terps.
Earlier in the morning, Maria Castellanos and Emily McAllister competed in the open race and represented the Terps well.
The group will continue to train over the next week and will compete again at Princeton on October 12th.
