Maryland's match at Purdue will be aired live on the Big Ten Network at 6 p.m. It can also be streamed with television provider information on BTN2Go.com. The match at Indiana will be at 2 p.m. and can be streamed on BTN+ ($). The Terps and Hoosiers will officially open Indiana's Wilkinson Hall -- a new arena that will be home to the wrestling and volleyball programs.
SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
Purdue will enter the dual against Maryland with a 3-4 record, which includes an 0-1 conference mark. The Boilermakers last dual action featured a 23-20 win over West Virginia at the South Beach Duals. Their lone conference match came against Iowa, where they lost to the third-ranked Hawkeyes, 26-9.
Purdue's lineup will feature four ranked grapplers, headlined by 157-pounder Griffin Parriott, who is currently ranked 13th in the weight class. Christian Brunner, a two-time NCAA qualifier, is also ranked 12th in the 197-pound weight class. Dylan Lydy has also been a force for the Boilermakers at 174 pounds, posting a 15-4 record between dual and tournament competition.
SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS
Indiana will wrestle Ohio State on Friday night before hosting the Terrapins on Sunday afternoon. The Hoosiers enter the weekend with a 3-6 record that includes an 0-2 mark in conference play. Their season has been headlined by an upset-win over then 12th-ranked North Carolina at the South Beach Duals. The Hoosiers won five-straight bouts in the middle of the match to sneak by the Tar Heels, 19-16.
Indiana has battled Michigan State and Michigan in conference action. The Hoosiers dropped a tight match at Michigan State, 16-15, before falling 32-7 to the fifth-ranked Wolverines.
KEEPING UP WITH THE TERPS
Maryland last wrestled at the 56th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships. The Terrapins were led by Josh Ugalde and Brandon Cray, who each fell one win shy of the podium after dropping their blood round matches.
Ugalde shined throughout the event, knocking off a pair of seeded wrestlers in the 174-pound weight class. He bested third-seeded Johnny Sebastian of Northwestern, who has been ranked as high as 10th in the 174-pound weight class. He also topped Andrew Morgan of Campbell with an 8-7 decision in his first match of the tournament.
After falling in his opening bout, Cray rattled off a trio of victories to advance to the blood round. His tournament also featured back-to-back pins in the consolation bracket, sticking both opponents in the opening minute of the second period. Cray lost in the blood round to Illinois' Justin Cardani, 2-1.
Alfred Bannister, Philip Spadafora and Adam Whitesell each earned a pair of wins at the Midlands. The Terps also saw wins from Ryan Diehl, Kyle Jasenski, Danny Bertoni, Jahi Jones, Orion Anderson and King Sandoval.
#MOOSETIME
Senior heavyweight Youssif Hemida made his season debut in collegiate competition last weekend, taking fifth at the F&M Open. Hemida had previously wrestled in the NWCA All-Star Classic before taking home a silver medal at the U23 World Championships in November.
Hemida is coming off an All-American campaign in 2017-18 after placing eighth at the NCAA Championships. He tallied a team-best 30 victories on the season, including a 15-1 dual record. He also tied for the second-most pins on the team with nine. He ended his junior season earning Academic All-American plaudits.
BABY'S BACK
Redshirt senior Alfred Bannister has been one of the leaders for the Terps this season, posting a 9-3 record between dual and tournament competition. The two-time Big Ten placer and NCAA qualifier earned three wins at the Midlands Championships, including a first period fall in his opening round match.
Bannister is 1-1 through dual match action this season, including a decision victory over No. 19 Jared Prince of Navy. His loss came to now-ranked No. 14 Anthony Artalona of Penn in sudden victory.
YOUTH MOVEMENT
True freshman Orion Anderson, along with redshirt freshmen Kyle Jasenski and Philip Spadafora have all found success through the early stages of the 2018-19 season.
Anderson emerged as the Terrapin starter at 133 pounds at the beginning of the season, earning a decision victory in Maryland's dual against Central Michigan. He also posted a win against Air Force's Jared Van Vleet at the Midlands Championships.
Jasenski has been a force in the 184-pound class this year, posting a 9-5 record between tournament and dual competition. He opened his season with a title at the ESU Open, and has since posted a 2-1 mark in dual meets. He tallied two wins at the Midlands Championships, and nearly upset 14th-ranked Cash Wilcke of Iowa, falling 2-0.
Spadafora has also impressed, wrestling for the Terps at 165 pounds this season. The New York native has an 8-7 record through dual and tournament action, which includes a win in dual competition when Maryland faced Central Michigan. He picked up a pair of victories at the Midlands Championships, including a decision over Minnesota's Jake Allar. He battled 16th-ranked Joey Gunther of Illinois in the third championship round, but fell via a 9-7 decision.
PINNING AND WINNING
Redshirt senior Adam Whitesell has used a handful of big moves to secure a team-best four pins through the first two months of the 2018-19 campaign. Whitesell opened his season with a pin at the Princeton Open and followed it up with a pair at the Wolfpack Open. His latest came at the Midlands Championships, where he stuck Jon Murphy of the Omega Training Center at the 1:39 mark. That pin was his most time for a fall this season, previously recording times of 58, 56 and 16 seconds.
Freshman King Sandoval also has four falls this season, all coming in open competition. His quickest came in just 18 seconds, pinning Will Jacobs of The Citadel at the Wolfpack Open in November.
A pair of Terps -- Alfred Bannister and Jarod Kosman -- have tallied three pins apiece thus far, with Bannister recording his fastest in just 24 seconds.
