ROSEMONT, Ill. – Maryland freshman goalkeeper Niklas Neumann has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Neumann made five stops against Ohio State has Maryland picked up its third consecutive clean sheet after a 2-0 win over the Buckeyes. The freshman has emerged as one of the top keepers in the country, boasting a .44 goals against average, the sixth best mark in the country and first in the Big Ten. The Terps have eight clean sheets this season with Neumann in between the sticks. Maryland has not given up a goal in its last 305 minutes of play.
No. 17 Maryland returns to action Tuesday night in a Big Ten showdown with No. 16 Penn State at Jeffrey Field in State College, Pa. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., and fans can watch the action live on BTN.
