
Terps Complete Day One of Play in Annapolis

Annapolis, Md. – The Terps wrapped up the first day of the Blue and Gold Classic, held at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Freshman Joy Callwood and junior Zoe Kulkarni started the day off for the Terps in the "A" Enthusiasm doubles flight. The pair put up a tough battle against Seton Hall's Melody Taal and Aina Plana, but fell 6-2. The pair continued play against Navy's Amanda Cyr and Kaylah Hodge, coming up short 6-1.
Freshman Chloe Hamlin and senior Saya Usui continued doubles play for Maryland, first reigning victorious against UNC Wilmington's Sarah Horn and Celeste Matute 6-3. The pair then faced Navy's Katreina Corpuz and Meghana Komarraju, but were unable to keep their momentum, falling 6-1.
Usui started off singles for the Terps in the "A" Adaptability flight against Georgetown's Agata Mikos, falling short in two sets 6-1, 6-1. Usui will play Navy's Annalise Klopfer in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket on Saturday.
With Hamlin's bye, Kulkarni finished Friday play for the Terps against Kacey Moore of Navy, losing in two well-fought battles 6-1, 6-4. Kulkrni with play Sofie Moenster of Georgetown on Saturday while Hamlin will start her singles battle against Rachel Summers of Mary Washington.
Maryland will continue play in the Blue and Gold Classic on Saturday.
