MEDINAH, Ill. - The Maryland's women's golf team wrapped up at the Illini Invitational Tuesday, tying for fourth place at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill.
As a team, Maryland earned an overall score of 862 (289-288-285), which was two strokes under total. The Terps' score of 862 ties the programs lowest, set in February 2019 at the Moon Golf Invitational.
Junior Virunpat Olankitkunchai led the Terps with her score of 210 (71-70-69), which was 6 strokes under par. She had five birdies in the third round Tuesday and tied for 3rd in the event.
"This was a solid performance from the team," head coach Diana Cantu said. "We had several under par rounds every round and it's great to see that the entire team can go low at any time. We had strong finishes and this should give us confidence for the rest of the fall season. We are going to keep working on our games in order to continue to improve. I am very proud of Virunpat's finish. She is racking up another top 3 finish to her career. It's a short turnaround before we head to Austin, Texas. It should be a good event as well."
Senior Xiaolin Tian went even on the tournament. She tied for 20th with her overall score of 216 (71-69-76) . She also picked up five birdies Monday.
Junior Charlotte Lafourcade went just 2 over par as she tied for 24th. Her overall score was 218 (73-75-70), she made four birdies in the third round.
Freshman Maria Vittoria Corbi finished with a score of 219 (74-74-71), which was three strokes over total. She tied for 28th. Competing as an individual, freshman Angela Garvin finished with a score of 221 (74-74-73). Both freshmen made four birdies in the first round.
Junior Laura Van Respaille had a final score of 228 (77-76-75). She picked up a birdie in Monday's first round.
Up next, the Terrapins will compete in the Betsy Rawls invitational in Austin, Texas. Oct.12-13.
