ROSEMONT, Ill. – Guard Ashley Owusu of the eighth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Monday for her first career weekly honor.
 
Owusu, a native of Woodbridge, Va., averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in the Terps' two wins this week. She shot over 56 percent (9-for-16) from the field and 50 percent (3-for-6) from outside the arc.
 
At James Madison Wednesday, she scored 14 points with three assists in the Terps' comeback win. She added six points in the fourth quarter as Maryland closed the game on a 29-11 run to battle back from 19 points down. She drove to the bucket and made the game-winning layup with 3 seconds to play, in just her third career game.
 
Against Delaware Sunday, she added 12 points, six assists and six rebounds.
 
Through her first four collegiate games, Owusu is leading the Terrapins with 15.3 points per game, 5.3 assists. She owns an assist/turnover ratio of 4.2, which is second in the Big Ten.
 
Maryland cruised past Delaware, 99-55, Sunday in College Park. Taylor Mikesell led five Terps in double figures with 23 points.
