Montgomery Announces 2020 Schedule

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Maryland softball head coach Mark Montgomery announced the program's 2020 schedule, including a challenging slate of matchups that feature eight teamsthat competed in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

The Terps will spend their non-conference slate on the road, with six tournaments in Austin, Texas, Clemson, S.C., Statesboro, Ga., Temple, Ariz., Miami, Fla., and Fairfax, Va.
Maryland opens the 2020 season, at the Texas Classic, Feb. 6-8, playing the likes of Wichita State, Lamar, Colorado State, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. They then head to Clemson for the 2020 ACC/Big Ten Challenge Feb. 14-16, where they will match-up with the Tigers and Pittsburgh for the weekend.

"While most of this year's schedule was pre-arranged prior to my arrival, I feel there are many positives," Montgomery stated.  "We will be tested prior to our Big Ten schedule by playing nine games against teams that were in last year's NCAA tournament."

The Terps will head to Statesboro, Ga. Feb. 21-23, facing off against Georgia Southern, Furman, Monmouth, and Evansville. It will lead them into the Sun Devil Classic, in Tempe, Ariz., Feb. 28-March 1. The Terps are slated to play Arizona State for two games, Southern Utah for two games, and Wisconsin.

With just two tournaments left before conference play, Maryland will head to Miami, Fla., at Florida International, from March 6-8. The Terps will match up against Ball State, Tulsa, FIU, and Samford.

The last tournament before Big Ten play begins will take place at Georgia Mason, in Fairfax, Va. March 13-15. Maryland will play against George Mason, Georgetown, and Monmouth.

"The main goal is to prepare us for a competitive run throughout our conference schedule, with our ultimate goal of winning the Big Ten and advancing to an NCAA Regional," Montgomery said.

Much like the non-conference slate, the Terps kick off Big Ten Conference play with two weekends on the road at Iowa March 19-21 and at Purdue March 27-29.

The Terps will finally take the Maryland Softball Stadium field April 3-5, facing off against Indiana. Continuing a short lived home stretch, the Terps will host George Mason on April 8 for a non-conference home game. The weekend of April 10-12, Maryland will head to State College, Pa. to matchup with Penn State.

For two straight conference matchups, the Terps will play at the Maryland Softball Stadium. Starting the home field advantage, Maryland hosts Rutgers April 15th, for a doubleheader matchup. With a quick turnaround, the Terps will also take the field against Nebraska April 17-19. Maryland then heads to reigning Big Ten champion Michigan, April 24-26.

The Terps end their regular season on their home field beginning with one last non-conference game against George Washington, April 29. They end their regular season with Michigan State May 1-3, at the Maryland Softball Stadium.

The Big Ten Conference Tournament kicks off May 7-9 and will be hosted in Champaign, Illinois.
