Maryland Celebrates 2019 Winter Graduates

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland celebrated graduation with several student-athletes over the past week prior to the winter commencement ceremonies. A reception was held prior to the men's basketball against Notre Dame on December 4 to recognize student-athletes as they prepared for their memorable graduation day on Tuesday.

"Graduation is one of my favorite days of the year," said Athletic Director Damon Evans. "It makes us all so proud to see our student-athletes' hard work and dedication rewarded as they earn their degrees. We congratulate each of our winter graduates and their families as they celebrate this incredible accomplishment."

A total of 24 student-athletes earned their degrees Tuesday, while men's basketball guard Anthony Cowan Jr. received his degree over the summer but walked in the winter commencement.

"I am honored to be able to say I am a Maryland Terrapin graduate," said field hockey senior Lizzy Dessoye. "The past four years here helped shape me into a better and stronger person than I ever imagined I can be and for that I am thankful."

The graduating class includes eight members of their respective sport's all-conference academic teams.
