RIO GRANDE, P.R. – The Maryland women's golf team finished the third and final round Tuesday in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Wyndham Rio Mar Resort and Country Club in Puerto Rico.

Round three was led by, sophomore
Virunpat Olankitkunchai who finished with a score of 219 (75-71-73), which was three strokes over. She finished tied 13th out of 80 participants.

Finishing just six strokes behind Olankitkunchai was senior
Ludovica Farina. Farina finished with a score of 225 (76-73-76).

Sophomore
Laura Van Respaille and senior
Ludovica Scandroglio finished with just one stroke difference. Van Respaille finished with a score of 227 (77-74-76). Scandroglio finished with a score of 228 (81-74-73).

Freshman
Elena Verticchio improved her score from round two and finished with a score of 239 (79-81-79).

The Terrapins as a team finished 11th out of 14 with a final score of 897 (307-292-298).

"Virunpat continues to play consistently well for the team. Finishing tied a 13 in a strong field as an individual continues to add confidence to her game," head coach
Diana Cantu said. "As a team, we were rusty for our first event of the spring. We will be more competitive as we continue to get out on the course at tournaments. We have a strong foundation and will continue to build on it."Â

Up next the Terps will be heading to Melbourne, Florida for the Moon Golf Invitational, Feb. 17-19.

The Terps are currently ranked in the top 50 teams in the nation according to Golfweek and Golfstat. This is the second time in program history, and first since the 2005-06 season the Terrapins are ranked among the 50 best teams in the country.
