COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland men's soccer team celebrated its 2018 National Championship at its annual year-end team banquet at the Marriott Inn and Conference Center Saturday night.
Maryland's players, coaches and support staff were joined by numerous families and supporters, including University of Maryland President Dr. Wallace Loh, Maryland Director of Athletics Damon Evans and former University president and current Chancellor Emeritus of the University System of Maryland Brit Kerwan. Those individuals, along with Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski, gave remarks to the attendees.
Cirovski and his coaching staff presented team awards to various members of Maryland's 2018 squad, with defender Donovan Pines named the team's most valuable player. Evans presented Cirovski with his National Coach of the Year award.
"When we ended 2017, we challenged our players and ourselves to reset the culture of what Maryland soccer was about," Cirovski said. "That development happened throughout our entire season and ended with us as the last team smiling, the last team standing. I am so happy to have everyone here celebrating this great season tonight."
