Bernhardt Named to Tewaaraton Watch List

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior Jared Bernhardt was named to the 2019 Tewaaraton Award watch list Thursday evening in a release made by the foundation. Bernhardt is a two-time USILA all-American and a 2018 First Team All-Big Ten choice.

The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.

Bernhardt is off to another strong start for the second-ranked Terrapins, amassing 23 points through five games on 16 goals and seven assists. The Longwood, Fla. native has totaled three hat tricks so far this season, including a five-goal output in Maryland's 10-9 win over Richmond.

Bernhardt eclipsed 100 career points as a Terp with his first goal of the game against #16 Colgate on February 19, becoming the 55th Terp in program history to reach the milestone. Bernhardt now has 107 points (76 G, 31 A) in 42 career games played (T-47th at UMD), and will continue to move up the all-time scoring list as the season progresses.

Bernhardt and Maryland will take their undefeated record (5-0) on the road this week when the team travels to face No. 17 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

About The Tewaaraton Foundation

Founded at the University Club of Washington, DC and first presented in 2001, the Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the preeminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. Endorsed by the Mohawk Nation Council of Elders and U.S. Lacrosse, the Tewaaraton Award symbolizes lacrosse's centuries-old roots in Native American heritage. The Tewaaraton Foundation ensures the integrity and advances the mission of this award. Each year, the Tewaaraton Award celebrates one of the six tribal nations of the Iroquois Confederacy – the Mohawk, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca and Tuscarora – and presents two scholarships to students of Native American descent.
