
#8 Terps Drop B1G Tournament Championship to #10 Iowa

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Junior Kaila Charles scored a career-high 36 points as the No. 8 Maryland women's basketball team fell in the Big Ten Tournament Championship game to No. 10 Iowa, 90-76.
After trailing 25-15 after the first quarter, Maryland outscored Iowa 30-26 in the second quarter despite having three players with two fouls. Charles was 6-for-9 and went for 16 points in the second quarter to cut the deficit to six, 51-45 at halftime.
The Terps came out of the locker room fast, scoring the eight of the first 10 points to tie the game at 53 off a Charles layup and foul. Iowa responded with a 16-7 run tho end the quarter and outscored Maryland 21-16 in the fourth quarter to claim the title. Megan Gustafson had 45 points and 10 rebounds for Iowa to lead the way.
Junior Blair Watson had eight points and seven rebounds for Maryland while sophomore Channise Lewis had 11 assists to go with five points.
Charles was selected to the All-Tournament Team after scoring 79 points over three games (26.3 per game) this weekend.
Heading into the NCAA Tournament, Maryland stands at 28-3 overall. Next, the Terrapins will learn their NCAA Tournament seed and region during the Selection Monday special on March 18 at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
