CASA DE CAMPO, D.R. – The Maryland women's golf team wrapped up at the Tar Heel Classic Saturday at the Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic.
 
The Terrapins played Pete Dye's celebrated Teeth of the Dog course, the top-rated course in the Caribbean and No. 27^th-ranked course in the world.
 
Junior Xiaolin Tian led the Terrapins and finished tied for 15^th with her score of 219 (73-72-74), which was three strokes over.
 
"Overall, we had a good tournament this week," head coach Diana Cantu said. "We had two out of three very strong rounds at Casa de Campo. It is fun to watch our players when they are on the course playing with confidence and trusting their process. This is a very talented team and we will continue to work hard in order to play to our strengths day in and day out."
 
Seniors Ludovica Farina and Ludovica Scandroglio and sophomore Laura Van Respaille tied for 32^nd with scores of 224. Farina went 74-78-72, Scandroglio went 71-78-75, and Van Respaille went 75-73-76.
 
Sophomore Virunpat Olankitkunchai went 11 strokes over with a score of 227 (78-78-71).
 
"Beating three teams ranked inside the top 50 gives us confidence as we head towards the end of our spring semester," Cantu said. "I know that our hard work will continue to pay off."
 
"It was great seeing Tian play well this week. It is her first tournament of the spring in the lineup and she came in strong for us. Virunpat came back with a 1 under par round today. We are excited about our next event at North Texas in a week and half."
 
As a team, Maryland shot its best score in Saturday's third round and finished with a combined score of 886 (293-301-292), which was seventh out of 15 teams. Under head coach Diana Cantu's leadership, the Terps, ranked No. 51, beat No. 48 Colorado, No. 57 NC State, No. 46 Virginia Tech and No. 28 Louisville.
 
Next, the Terps will compete at the Bruzzy Challenge in Denton, Texas March 31-April 2.
