WASHINGTON D.C. – The Maryland gymnastics team earned a 194.825 in Friday night's loss to BYU and George Washington. Maryland will have an opportunity to redeem themselves Monday night when George Washington visits the XFINITY Center.
"I'm really proud of them," said head coach
Brett Nelligan. "We had some last-minute changes and they handled them really well, they were able to maintain their composure with all the shifting around we had to do today and I think they were awesome."
The GymTerps opened the evening on bars led by sophomore
Audrey Barber and an impressive performance from freshman
Sanya Glauber who both earned 9.825s. Junior
Tiara Wright followed with a 9.775 of her own.
Maryland's highest team score of the night came on beam where Barber and Wright both hit exceptional routines earning 9.800s followed by sophomore
Emilie LeBlanc (9.775) The Terps ended with a 48.850 on beam, the second highest team score in the event this season.
Freshman anchor
Alexsis Rubio stuck her yurchenko layout full to earn herself a 9.800 and the Stick Shell.
"She really finished the meet off for us and it was one of her best vaults of the year," said Nelligan
Both freshmen impressed in their respective events earning 9.800s or better.
Barber finished the meet as the Terps only all-around competitor earning a 39.175.
The GymTerps have a quick turn around this weekend with a home meet scheduled Monday night when George Washington will return to XFINITY Center for a home and home series.
"I think we can really keep the adrenaline rolling and stay hyped up for the second meet this weekend. We try to look at it one thing at a time."
The meet is slated for a 7 p.m. start and will air on
