UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Maryland gymnastics team earned a season best team score on floor (49.225) in Saturday's outing. The Terps earned a 194.800 on the day following Ohio State's 195.775 and Michigan State's 195.425.
Sophomore
Audrey Barber earned first place in the all-around competition for session one earning a 39.425.
"Floor was the turning point for us," said head coach
Brett Nelligan. "That's when we got back to being ourselves and competing hard."
Two Terps earned season bests Saturday, Barber and junior
Alecia Farina. Barber posted a 9.900 on her biggest bars routine this season and Farina led the Terps on floor, smashing her previous season-best score of 9.775.
The first half of the meet did not go as planned for the Terps who earned a 48.950 on bars and an uncharacteristic 47.775 on beam. Barber respectfully led the team in both events.
"We learned the lesson that we can't wait until halfway through the meet to be ourselves, we have to do that right from the first routine," said Nelligan.
Maryland bounced back for the second half of the meet earning a season high on floor led by Farina's 9.900 and followed closely by Barber (9.875) and sophomore
Sabriyya Rouse's 9.850.
"When we went over to floor we really just focused on letting ourselves go and enjoying the rest of the meet," said Farina. "We know that is the best way we compete as a team."
