CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Head coach
Cathy Reese became the all-time winningest women's lacrosse coach at the University of Maryland as the No. 2 Terps (13-0) handled No. 8 Virginia, 16-6 on Wednesday night.
Reese passed her college coach and IWLCA Hall of Famer Cindy Timchal, who won eight national championships at the helm of the program and led the Terps from 1991-2006. Reese, now in her 13th season, is 261-21 and has led the Terps to four National Championships, 10 Final Fours and 19 Conference Championships .

Brindi Griffin led Maryland with four goals apiece in the win as the Terps jolted out to an 11-1 lead in the first half and scored the first six goals of the game. This marks the second game in a row that Griffin has scored four goals, her career-high. Senior

Megan Taylor continued her standout season in goal, saving nine saves to only six goals allowed, a .600 save percentage. Taylor notched seven saves to only two goals allowed in the second half of the game, a .778 percentage. As a defense, Maryland held Virginia to only 15 shots on goal. Senior

Grace Griffin each had two caused turnovers.Â
Two goals by Steele, two by Evans and one apiece by Giles and Siverson ran Maryland out to a 6-0 lead. B. Griffin and Steele then combined for the next five goals to put Maryland ahead 11-4 at halftime. The Terps kept Virginia off the scoreboard for the first 20 minutes of the game.
Maryland held Virginia to only two goals in the second half and has now held their last six opponents to under 10 goals in the game.Â
Now with six top ten wins and 13-0 overall, Maryland will play another top ten foe on Saturday against No. 7 Michigan at 5:00 p.m. at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium. The game will be senior day as the Terps will honor the careers of their 10 seniors.
