COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior Jared Bernhardt was named the co-Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and a member of the USILA Team of the Week, while senior Austin Henningsen was named the Big Ten's Specialist of the Week in announcements made by the organizations Tuesday.
The honors come after Maryland (9-2, 1-1) picked up its ninth victory of the 2019 season with a 16-12 win over Michigan on April 6.
Bernhardt garnered his first career Offensive Player of the Week accolade from the conference and his second USILA weekly honor after tying his career-high with eight points on five goals and three assists vs. the Wolverines. Bernhardt joined an exclusive club with his third goal of the game, becoming just the third Terp since 2000 to record a hat trick in five consecutive games. The Longwood, Fla. native was also credited with the game-winning goal, and did not record a single turnover in the victory.
Henningsen was named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week for the third time this year and for the fifth time in his career after tying his career-high with 22 faceoff wins against Michigan. The Northport, N.Y. native set a new career-high in groundballs with 15, the most by a Terp in a single game since Aandy Claxton scooped 16 twice in 1992.
Henningsen is now the only Terrapin in program history to post two games with 22 faceoff wins or more in a career, and is four wins away from becoming the fourth Terp in school history with 500+ faceoff wins.
Bernhardt, Henningsen and the rest of the Maryland lacrosse team will return to action this Sunday, April 14 to face Rutgers (5-6, 1-1) in Piscataway, N.J. Faceoff is slated for 7:00 pm and the game will appear on the Big Ten Network.
