COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland men's soccer team signed 15-year old Tanner Reyes from Team IMPACT as a ceremony in College Park Monday morning.
Tanner, a native of Finksburg, Md., is a lifelong soccer player and Terrapins soccer supporter. He was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at birth, but continues to participate in soccer. Tanner was joined at his signing by his mother Deanne, along with Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski, the men's soccer staff and the entire men's soccer team.
"This is a proud moment for Maryland men's soccer," Cirovski said. "Tanner couldn't be a better fit for us. Tanner was born with cystic fibrosis and he still continues to play soccer. Tanner loves soccer and he loves the University of Maryland, and Tanner we love you. We are so delighted for you to become a part of our team because the courage and strength that you show is what we stand for."
After signing his national letter of intent, Tanner was presented with his jersey by Cirovski along with juniors Eric Matzelevich, Ben Di Rosa and Matt Di Rosa. As a member of the Terps, Reyes will attend matches, team practices and team functions.
When prompted for a comment as the press conference, Tanner made this statement:
"National Championship, back-to-back?"
Nothing else more to say. Maryland opens its season Thursday, August 29 at 8 p.m. against USF. Fans can purchase season tickets here.
