Terps in the NFL: Week One

Each week throughout the NFL season, umterps.com will provide a roundup of all the highlights from the Terps action in the NFL.

Jermaine Carter Jr. made an impact on special teams in week one, blocking a Los Angeles Rams punt and getting national praise from columnist Peter King
Special Teams Player of the Week Jermaine Carter, LB, Carolina.
"Carter, with the Panthers down to the Rams 23-13 a minute into the fourth quarter, lined up on the line of the Carolina punt-block team. L.A. had fourth-and-12 at the Rams 23. Carter broke through the line of one of the best special-teams units in football, coached by John Fassel, and smothered the punt of Johnny Hekker. (It was only the second blocked Hekker punt in his career.) The Panthers recovered at the 5 and scored two plays later, making it a game. A great turn of events in Charlotte, sparked by the Carter block." Vernon Davis showed he is an ageless wonder on the Washington Redskins as he hurdled an Eagles' player and maneuvered his way for a 48-yard touchdown. Davis now has 63 touchdowns to his career, passing Shannon Sharpe as 6th on all-time NFL tight end touchdown reception list.
Quinton Jefferson shined in the Seattle Seahawks' narrow 21-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals posting 6 total tackles with 2 solo, 2 sacks, 3 tackles for loss, 2 passes deflected and 1 stuff for a 1-yard loss.
After being drafted in the first round of this year's draft, Darnell Savage Jr. notched 3 solo tackles and 1 pass deflected in his NFL debut as the Green Bay Packers defense dominated the Chicago Bears 10-3 in Chicago.
A weapon for the Panthers' offense, DJ Moore notched 7 receptions for 76 yards averaging almost 11 yards per reception.

Yannick Ngakoue continuously proves to be instrumental to the Jacksonville Jaguars' defense with three solo tackles in the 20-7 loss to the Houston Texans.

Stefon Diggs was questionable for Week One, but prevailed and started for the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings defeated the Atlanta Falcons 28-12 with Diggs' 2 receptions for 37 yards.

The New England Patriots defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 33-3 with JC Jackson recording a solo tackle.

Ty Johnson also saw action in his first career NFL regular season game with the Detroit Lions. Johnson recorded 1 carry for six yards in a 27-27 tie with the Arizona Cardinals.
