COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland women's tennis team completed day one of the Bedford Cup at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park Friday. Juniors
Amber Policare and Zoe Kulkarini both posted victories in the Wimbledon singles flight . Policare sealed the deal with a 6-3, 6-3 win, while Kulkarini picked up a victory 7-5, 6-2. Senior Kate Yemelyanenka also came out victorious in the Wimbledon flight with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Loyola's Sandra Augirre.
In the Australian Open flight,
Eva Alexandrova battled after the splitting the first two sets and advanced with a 10-5 tiebreaker win. zgreshman
Joy Callwood won her US Open singles flight with a 6-3, 6-0 sweep against Towson's Madison Metzdorf.
Chloe Hamin will get here singles play underway in the Australian Open flight on Saturday after getting a bye into the second round. Senior
Saya Usui dropped her first round singles match.
Doubles teams Policare and Hamlin, along with seniors Usui and Yemelyanenka each took home wins in the first round of the Old Bay doubles flight, but fell in the second round. Both teams will move into consolation action.
Doubles and singles play continues Saturday at the JTCC.
