COLLEGE PARK, Md. –The Maryland women's lacrosse team will feature Inside Lacrosse's No. 1 freshman class in the nation next spring. Six Terps are ranked in the publication's Top 50 Freshmen rankings, including five of the top 20 and the top ranked attacker and defender. 11 of the 12 Terrapin newcomers are ranked in the top 100.
"We are so excited to welcome this freshman class to Maryland," head coach Cathy Reese said. "They come to College Park with a ton of talent and experience and will really help us out on the field this spring. I cannot wait to see what this class can accomplish."
This freshman class will join a senior class that was also ranked as the top recruiting class when they came to College Park in 2016. It is the third time this decade (2011, 2016, 2019) that Maryland has had the top recruiting class.
The 2019 class includes Shaylan Ahearn, Sophia Antonopoulos, Catherine Flaherty, Victoria Hensh, Brianna Lamoureux, Hannah Leubecker, Libby May, Aiden Peduzzi, Emma Schettig, Kate Sites, Emily Sterling and Emma Tilson.
The Terps feature six Under Armour All-Americans, the most in the country, all of whom were ranked by Inside Lacrosse: No. 4 Ahearn, No. 5 Schettig, No. 9 Leubecker, No. 13 Flaherty, No. 20 Sites and No. 26 Hensh.
Hensh is the younger sister of 2018 graduate Taylor Hensh, who won two national championships as a Terp. May is the younger sister of current Maryland junior Catie May, who helped the Terps win the 2019 National Championship last season.
