GREEN BAY, Wisc. – Former Maryland football standout and current Green Bay Packers safety Darnell Savage has been named to the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA) All-Rookie team for 2019.
The Packers traded up to take Savage with the 21st pick in the first round of the NFL Draft back in April. The 5-foot-11, 198-pound safety tallied 55 tackles, five passes defensed, two interceptions and two forced fumbles in 14 regular-season starts.
Savage is the first Green Bay safety to be named All-Rookie since 2014, when Ha Ha Clinton-Dix was selected.
Savage, a 2018 Second Team All-Big Ten selection, tied for second in the conference and ranked 13th nationally with four interceptions during his senior season at Maryland. A Newark, Delaware native that earned his degree in Family Science, Savage ranked second on the team with 5.5 tackles for loss and fourth in total tackles (51) in 2018. A durable leader of Maryland's defense, Savage ended his Terps career with 30 consecutive starts.
