EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Maryland wrestling team dropped a number of tight decisions on Sunday as it fell to Michigan State, 36-0.
Brandon Cray and King Sandoval both gained early advantages in their matches at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively, but Michigan State's wrestlers used late takedowns to earn the lead and ultimately one-point decisions.
Hunter Baxter battled Matt Santos tough at 141 pounds before dropping a 6-3 decision, and Philip Spadafora was bested by Layne Maczewski, 3-0, at 174 pounds, but Michigan State wouldn't give up a win as they cruised to a 36-0 victory to earn their first Big Ten win of the season.
The Spartans improve to 5-5 and snap a three-match skid, while Maryland drops to 2-9 on the season.
